Valentines Day:

This year, Valentine’s Day is on Saturday, February 14 but the last day of classes that week is Wednesday, February 11.  Sometime between February 9 to 11 classes at Northern Lights School will recognize and approach Valentine’s Day discussions as opportunities for students learn more about how their actions of kindness, gratitude, friendship and small, thoughtful gestures can positively impact the world around them.

Some classes may choose to facilitate an optional exchange of Valentine’s cards/notes from home and these teachers will send a list of first names home. Please see the teacher’s individual blogs for details about what they may or may not be doing.

If you child would like to bring a message of kindness to other students before February 11, we ask that you respect the following expectations:

  • Each child in the class should receive a message if your child would like to send something.  (There is no expectation that your child will send a message, but we request that if your child does bring a note or Valentine that no student in their class is left out.)
  • What is written is kind

For safety reasons, no candy, chocolate or other food items can be handed out. (If your child brings any candy, chocolate or food items, they will be sent back home with them.) Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Our class will be having a Valentine’s Day exchange on Wednesday, February 11th. Students are not required to bring Valentine cards; however, if they would like to participate, here is our class list: (Please make sure you bring cards for every student in the class if you are bringing them. There are 28 students in our class!

Oral Storytelling Homework:

We are beginning our oral storytelling unit. As part of this learning, students are creating personal life timelines that highlight important events in their lives. For homework, students will bring their timelines home and are asked to select nine significant events, beginning with when they were born. For each event, students should include a picture (you can print pictures, or draw), a short description, and the date it occurred. Students have also brainstormed a list of ideas on the back of their page to support with this work. Please support your child as they work on this assignment, and return the completed timeline by Friday, February 6.

Happy Winter Walk Day! :)
