Tuesday February 3

Today:

- We had Music and P.E. Ask me what we did!

- Ask me what literacy station I was in!

- We had our multiplication SWYK today. Ask me how I felt about it! We will be moving on to division soon, please make sure you continue to practice your basic facts everyday!

- In Science we learned about the solar system. Ask me what the order of the planets is!

- In Writing we continued to work on oral storytelling. We listened to the story "Napi and the Rock" and then we drew what happened in the story.

VALENTINE’S

Heart in Family Hands, Belonging, Family, Caring, February, Valentines

This year, Valentine’s Day is on Saturday, February 14 but the last day of classes that week is Wednesday, February 11.  Sometime between February 9 to 11 classes at Northern Lights School will recognize and approach Valentine’s Day discussions as opportunities for students learn more about how their actions of kindness, gratitude, friendship and small, thoughtful gestures can positively impact the world around them.

Some classes may choose to facilitate an optional exchange of Valentine’s cards/notes from home and these teachers will send a list of first names home. Please see the teacher’s individual blogs for details about what they may or may not be doing.

If you child would like to bring a message of kindness to other students before February 11, we ask that you respect the following expectations:

  • Each child in the class should receive a message if your child would like to send something.  (There is no expectation that your child will send a message, but we request that if your child does bring a note or Valentine that no student in their class is left out.)
  • What is written is kind

For safety reasons, no candy, chocolate or other food items can be handed out. (If your child brings any candy, chocolate or food items, they will be sent back home with them.) Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Winter Walk Day – Wednesday, February 4th
On Wednesday, the Grade 4 classes will be going on a Community Walk to the Country Hills Village Pond as part of our Winter Walk Day. This walk provides students with an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, engage in physical activity, and connect with our local community.
We will leave the school at 10:00 a.m. and return by 11:45 a.m., in time for lunch. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for milder winter weather and walking conditions, such as layered clothing and comfortable footwear suitable for outdoor walking.

Students may bring a small snack to eat during the walk and a water bottle if they wish. Please note that students will be responsible for carrying and caring for their own personal belongings throughout the walk.

Oral Storytelling Homework:

We are beginning our oral storytelling unit. As part of this learning, students are creating personal life timelines that highlight important events in their lives. For homework, students will bring their timelines home and are asked to select nine significant events, beginning with when they were born. For each event, students should include a picture (you can print pictures, or draw), a short description, and the date it occurred. Students have also brainstormed a list of ideas on the back of their page to support with this work. Please support your child as they work on this assignment, and return the completed timeline by Friday, February 6.
