Monday September 22

Today:

- We practiced our writing station in literacy stations! Ask me what I wrote about! 

- In math we reviewed place value. Ask me what we did!

- Ask me what we did in P.E!

- In writing we reviewed how to write a complete sentence. We also reviewed what nouns adjectives, and verbs are!

- In science we discussed examples of different materials and which bin they belong in!

September 30 – NO SCHOOL – National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

September 30th is a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation meant to commemorate the history and legacy of Residential Schools in Canada. On Friday, September 26th, students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt or something else with orange to recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Truth and Reconciliation Day. 

Students will be engaging in learning next week to honor this important day. Through read alouds and activities, students will focus on understanding what they each need to feel safe and cared for at school and to consider this question: “What action can each member of our school community do to make sure every student feels safe and cared for at school, everyday?” This week is an opportunity for Northern Lights students and staff to come together in the spirit of reconciliation to show their support of a safe, respectful and caring school community.

  We are so excited to be starting the 2025-2026 school year with you!  This year, our whole school will be using Blogger to make regular agenda posts. To make it easier for you, you can add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone or  iPad by following the directions on the “Adding Blogger to Home Screen” document.  We hope this makes the communication between home and school easier and opens great conversations between you and your child. The CBE (Calgary Board of Education) and Mrs. Brinson will be communicating information to  you through School Messenger email titled ‘Northern Lights News for ___.”  This email will include a link to the  Northern Lights School Website ,  so messages can be translated into any language. Today: - We went on a community walk!! - We did an art project about trees in the Fall! Ask me what we did! - Ask me what we did in music! - We had a sharing circle. We shared 2 positive things that happened this week. Ask me what I shared!  Reminders: At this time, the CBE is preparing for an Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) strike beginning on Monday, Oct. 6. Here is what this means for CBE families: All classes will be cancelled. Do not send your child to school. Transportation will be cancelled. Do not leave your child at a bus stop. Please visit the CBE Labour Action page for all the information you need to know about how this impacts athletics, trips, extracurricular activities, before & after school care, and other topics.
